One TERA update to save them all

So I've been thinking,TERA is kinda not really in the best place given that new games keep coming out and everytime a new game comes out it just takes 1/4th of TERA population away.
Now I've been thinking what could possibly bring people back to TERA and the most wanted thing is the better optimization for TERA,however every time a player leaves TERA and someone mentions its name to him again the thing he will remember most about is the RNG and that will keep him away from coming back most likely.
Now TERA is a game based on RNG 99% of the time so we can't remove RNG from TERA no matter how much we tried thats just not gonna happen.
So what could appeal most to the general public to make more people come back to TERA?
Well,I believe even a big patch with new class and new dungeons won't work anymore.
It worked nicely for Ninja and Gunner for a couple of weeks, months but I doubt people will be that excited about it.

So whats the next best thing TERA can do to make players come back?
IMO its to bring the cap up to 70.
Yes,a lot of people will disagree but here's my reasoning.
First,a level 70 cap would mean the TERA story and lore would dramatically increase and there are people who follow that.
2nd,a level 70 cap means that this would almost be like a new beginning for TERA as it would mean that all things achieved gear wise would mean literally nothing anymore and it would attract more players to come back believing they can actually catch up to people playing the game and be one of the top players.
and 3rd,a level cap increase is a huge thing and it would be advertised everywhere and would attract people a lot more than "new dungeon with recollored bosses" or "new gender and race locked class broken class".

Feel free to comment your thoughts on the matter guys, but try to explain your reasons and not just be like "uh thats dumb you're dumb"

  • How I felt it should've gone.
Is todo all these class revamps at one time.
Release them all with a level 70 expansion.
Then have HH as the new big huge content with the level 70 expansion.

Behemoth would be level 70 vm8.5 so then people who made ambush wouldn't feel their gear was outdated cause it was level 65 when level cap is 70 so quickly.

But regardless I agree a new cap would be nice.

MAYBE WE'LL SEE BALDERA IN ACTION

Increase in level cap doesn't solve any of those issues and would only bring in temporary players, who would then leave shortly after like any other update.

The thing I meant is,even if they fixed all of the current problems, lets say they fix optimization, they bring new original content with awesome non-laggy graphics and perfect bosses that everyone would love.
Those updates although it would benefit TERA and should be done,it won't make TERA population rise anymore, too many people have been disappointed by it in the past and it wont attract them anymore.
However an update like an increase in level cap sounds a lot more appealing towards everyone.
Im not saying they should ignore the current problems,Im just thinking of a way to make TERA more popular because as is,its losing people way too fast, and just fixing the long overdue problems won't get TERA a higher player population.
  • Current TERA problems :
    1.Optimization
    2.Population
    3.Recycled content

Level cap increase would solve population problem for a bit, fixing optimization would make the population wanna stay and play the game more and as for Recycled content well thats on developers heads.

If you solve one of TERA biggest issues, which is Optimization, you solve the Population problem. A lot of people are very discouraged of trying out TERA after finding out that their high end gaming rigs can only run TERA at most 30fps while it can easily surpass the limits in other games.

How to keep the population attached to TERA, that is up to the devs to decide, cause even if they finally optimize the game, it wont do much if they cannot keep the players from going away.

What keeps the community engaged is not really end game, as many ppl cannot do end game, but alternative content.
Alternative content is what i call content that is not end game, but can be enjoyed by everyone regardless of how long they been playing. One of such is Housing, which we still eagerly are waiting for BHS to add.

I can tell you right now, that if BHS decides to create a player/guild housing for TERA that is community based, which means the community creates stuff for the community, TERA will recover a large chunk of population. And this would be easy to do, since TERA is on Steam, community content for housing, such as decorations and others, can be created and shared through the Steam Workshop. Now that we are talking about it, BHS would be wise to follow a current trend in games, which is what i said before: Community driven games. Should TERA could become one of those, and add content that the same players create for the players, it will thrive.

Not just that, BHS should realize at this point that there is a dedicated modding community for TERA. I know they are against the rules, but some of them actually look way better than the original version. BHS should look into that and cooperate with the modding community to create more stuff, after all, the modding community makes stuff for the players.

To sumarize, in order to bring the game back to life, we gotta ask ourselves first "How are we doing as a community?" More community driven contests and events would surely bring a few players here and there, cause lets be honest, who doesn't like a game that has an active community?

A quality of life patch is needed. Player housing, fun quests, epic story lines (and not just long cut scenes), fishing, mini games, more emotes, a /lay or /sleep animation, cool in-game trinkets and gadgets (stuff like the sand castle and toy tanks). The game needs more horizontal content, not vertical.
But rip us. Most Korean MMOs aren't about that life. And given their track record, not BHS. Sometimes I question if they have a creative content team at all.

So here at NA, the best we got are the heroes at EME and the events they come up with given their limited tools. And I am really, really happy with what @Spacecats, @DonkeyProphet, and the others have done so far.

But if they are looking to strive for more... all I can say is I miss the highly creative events of some past games I've played, like the zombie infection event from many years back in WoW. Something like this would need to be done by the dev studio.. so I know it's next to never before we see something at this scale in TERA. But holy cow. This is how you do events for the community:

It sounds more appealing to you, and anyone who agrees with you, not everyone. There will still be recycled content even if the cap raises, and it won't benefit new players at all, it would be quite the opposite. They can also add more parts of the map and story without a level cap increase as well.

Only thing BHS (or the original devs...) did right was the combat, everything else is a mess..
If they think this game will live with only the combat system and, every 3~6 months, endless gear grind, reskinned bosses and old nerfed dungeons, broken classes, huge imbalances and infinite game breaking RNG, they're VERY wrong.

BHS has proven for the past 2+ years that they're clueless and lazy to manage this game...
And maybe it's something with this dead MMO genre too. I mean, game breaking RNG on top of RNG for gear progression, endless gear grinding and nothing else feels so 2004...

    Anyway, just mark my words:

    Tera's new big patch:

*New broken gender/race locked class that will deal 50~100% more dps than everyone else. Of course BHS will spend the rest of the next year buffing (and "fixing" what was ok) every other class.
*2 "new" dungeons, both with 2 IOD BAMs without AI that jumps all over the place. Maybe the last boss will be something almost new..
*Lots of sub 1 sec one shot mech with disabled iframes ofc to rekt high-ping players. They think that cheap mechanics = hard mechanics and everyone on korea got 10ms so whatever..
*Of course, new VM9 gear with a bigger gap vs VM8.5, what's tera without gear grinding?
*More additional useless RNG cuz they think that more RNG = longer content lifespan, ofc players love to burn 400 semis to reroll a single jewel or fail 200 tries on +15, nobody will quit...
*More p2w items cuz for a dying game it's all about the whales. Maybe a new dragon with 3x crit passive or new op cash shop head accessory..No need to worry, we can grind 1M gold and buy in game from TB!
*New stupid decision that nobody asked for, like what they did with instance reset scrolls. Maybe a huge fod/mats nerf?
    *Dead pvp ofc...
*Bugs, lags, DCs, ping spikes, etc
*1K~1.5K total player base, maybe another server merge?

    etc..

That's the most that i expect from this game now.

  • I played TERA from the beta to around a month or two before brawler was released. I'd really like to come back; but, my biggest problem is +15. Getting awakening feels so grindy. TERA has always been grindy and RNG; but, even getting quills for VM and +12ing it wasn't as hard or maybe just not as boring to get as the current VM sets feel. A level cap would bring people back for a while, but it isn't really a solution to the issues the game has. I also miss charms and nostrums being something you had to bring and prep with; that's probably just nostalgia though.

I'll likely come back for this upcoming patch, but I don't have high hopes that it will hold my interest. Just my two cents on the matter. I really do want to enjoy the game again though; TERA in p2p and even early f2p was my favorite mmo.

    I'm glad to hear that.

And I agree with @Dvsv, the only thing they did right was the combat system. I have not tried BDO or Revelations yet, but DCUO, Wildstar, BNS...they did not feel as solid TERA's combat system imo.

With Nexon helping BHS now it is my hope as well

  • You cant attract new people to farm like koreans to lvl 70 in a rng based game so badly optimized. First things first........
