How to lose aggro as a healer (priest/mystic?)
Title speaks for itself. I haven't healed in a while but I'm not having fun coming back leveling as them. I get nervous healing as a healer because I always pick up aggro too fast and don't know how to get rid of it/maintain it. That's why I avoid going on my healers to level because I get aggro and die. Then get group members complaining about me dying.
I was told that using jaunt to teleport behind boss losses aggro to the boss. Or attacking the mobs loses aggro too. I've tried kitting but they keep killing me. Also tried dropping healing spheres/mana [filtered] before boss but everyone pulls so fast I don't get a chance.
I don't get how (while playing on my dps characters) priest/mystics can survive the whole dungeon without dying once. I wish to achieve that. Any ideas?
And also, can anyone screenshot or show me the simplest priest/mystic hotkeys? I want my haling/dps skills to be easier to click quickly withotu having to search across the keyboard for a specific button. Need some ideas. Thanks.

Also I memorised the keybinding. Maybe it is because I play too many different games and got used to all the keys even without a macro mouse, but there is no real way to keep it simple unless you try it out.
But right now, as long as there is DPS, you really shouldn't be generating that much aggro on your own. I can say that because even though I force all heals (literally use every single healing skill off cooldown despite everyone at full hp) I hardly get aggro, and even then I can easily mitigate it with proper positioning. In fact it is the first time I read about someone actually having aggro on heals.
When I use titanic favor, mobs chase me or heal (priest) mobs chase me too. I just don't get how you survive.
2) Do not go so near to mobs that aren't yet aggroed, because healing (be it self or party) generates aggro in a radius.
3) Self heal only when you know the mobs won't get to you in the next second. Most newbie healers who get aggro panic heal, and it is a common mistake because they will be locked in animation for that crucial 0.8 seconds.
4) Also, theoretically you shouldn't even die if you get hit, unless you have like 15 mobs hitting you at the same time. But I will emphasize, right now if something like this happen, it is either the party aggroed too much to handle, you making the mistake on positioning and healing right in front of a bunch of mobs, or the party being completely garbage and can't clear nerfed content.
I (hopefully) assume that the last time you healed was when sorc generates aggro on fireblast before it is even casted. Because that was the only time you can get the excuse of healers getting aggro.
No I don't have that crystal but I'll try it out. So should I heal only when the mobs are pulled and already attacked?
If they are not hitting the mobs or boss with more than 3 skills, don't heal them.
If a DPS facepulled before the tank goes in, don't heal them.
If a DPS facepulled and starts before the tank AND they seem to actually be decent/experienced at DPSing, DO HEAL them.
If your party is ALL DPS (no lancer, brawler), do not heal them until a several seconds into the engage. Let them generate a good amount of aggro on ALL the mobs before you heal them.
Remember that heal-over-time spells generate less aggro than your direct heals (most applicable to Priest). It is best to experiment for yourself which of your healing skills generate more aggro.
Notes:
Priest's Healing Immersion generates 0 aggro.
Mystic's Boomerang generates 0 aggro. I think. One of Mystic's heals generate 0 aggro but I'm not 100% sure which one.
If you are still dying on Mystic due to aggro:
1. Start using your Thrall of Protection and use its Attack command on whatever mobs are giving you trouble.
2. Activate the Glyph of Grounding on Corruption Ring, and cast/hold down that skill until your dps kills all the mobs that are attacking you.
hmm always keep moving and only heal after u see the tank use an aggro skill like shout or etc.
if a dps go in front he's either hot stuff or hot [filtered]~
make sure u see which one before you heal, if you heal a scrub wannabe the mobs will go after u
hf and play safe m8 welcome to the masochist group of tera healers x3
Mark your tank
Mouse your aiming cross over the tank, press P and select one of the three colors. Now a huge blinking mark appears over the tank.
Safe yourself
In case of emergency, just locate your tank and run closely behind him. The tank, however bad he may be, continously produces aggro by attacking in front of him. Pull any mobs you have into the attack area of your tank. Stand on the same spot as him and let him hit the mobs. Heal/shield yourself and the tank.
Movement/Placement
In leveling dungeons, other DPS players rarely cater to/save the healer. This is why you should be always near your tank.
Priorities
Tera is quite forgiving, when it comes to deaths in dungeons. However, the priority stays the same. The last (wo)man standing is the healer. If a DPS player dies, it doesn't hurt at all. If te tank dies, a DPS can take over and kite the boss while you're resurrecting the tank. If the healer dies (and no one can resurrect you), it's all over.
Keybinds
Place your hands into playing position. The two easiest (e.g. for me left mouse and right mouse) are assigned to heal and self-heal. The next easiest keys (e.g. 1, 2, 3) are bound to the "Oh shiet" skills. This means Kaias shield, Thrall of Life, etc. The spells you use the least (e.g. buffs, Grace of resurrection) are assigned to hard to reach keys (e.g. F9-F12).
Off-Tank
In leveling dungeons, you encounter a lot of well-equiped, experienced players that can easily kill large groups, even they are not a tank. This could be a sorcerer, a ninja, whatever. If your tank is really bad and in case of emergency, just run to these kind of players and stand on his spot. Usually they just cut down the mobs following you.
You're right. I've started getting the hang of it. I don't need to heal party members until their health is half or lower. I also don't heal until the mobs are pulled, every mob is at half health so I know I won't get aggro and I try not to heal before mobs are pulled or that will get me killed.
I'll make sue of that: If your party is ALL DPS (no lancer, brawler), do not heal them until a several seconds into the engage. Let them generate a good amount of aggro on ALL the mobs before you heal them.
Now in leveling, don't quote me on this but I think healing aggro was nerfed recently so you are safe if so. As a leveling mystic if you don't have a tank in the party just spawn a thrall of protection, the aggro on it was buffed so no adds should be bothering you when it's up. As I priest idk what level but you get a long cd aggro cleanse. If these options are for some reason not viable then just jaunt/backstep/etc to your dps and/or tank while healing yourself and let them handle it
Or in a group?
If you heal other people (or yourself), do you get aggro?
PRIEST
The best tip I can give you is:
Train yourself to avoid using focus heal as often as you can. Your two best friends for healing (on priest) are:
1. Healing circle (not restorative burst)
2. Healing Immersion
Both of these skills heal for a lot and can heal multiple people without locking you in place. The animation for them is a lot shorter than focus heal and have a bigger impact.
Another tip for priest is, if you find yourself surrounded by mobs: Kaia -> then fiery escape. Fiery escape will put you in combat, but it also has a slowing effect on any mob that is hit, and allows you to put a bit of distance between you and the mobs, then when they catch up, you can iframe and put distance between you and danger until your fiery escape's cooldown has run its course.
My other tip for you regarding mobs is to lead them to the DPS, not the tank. If you lead the mobs behind the tank while the tank is already engaged with targets in front of him, he will sustain more damage as he cannot also block from behind. By leading the mobs to the DPS, It is a direct way of telling them "pay attention to me and kill these or die." It forces them to attack the mobs.
Depending on your level, your ultimate "oh [filtered]" button is Divine Respite. It's your saving grace in situations where you need to ress dead party members even if you're the only one alive and have all aggro on you, as it will heal you while you're in animation lock.
Another useful skill you have is Prayer of Peace which will nullify your aggro from the nearest enemies and mitigate it to the person that had 2nd highest aggro. If in that situation the DPS is at low health and the tank is dead, do NOT heal the DPS, but focus on ressing the tank as fast as you can. If you heal immediately after using Prayer of Peace, the aggro will simply bounce right back to you. It's better to get the tank up to peel aggro off DPS (and then heal DPS or ress dead DPS now that aggro is back on the tank) than it is to heal the DPS to 100% and have aggro back on you, putting yourself in danger again.
MYSTIC
This again depends on the level at which you're playing and how many skills are at your disposal.
1. Avoid spamming healing motes while leveling as they generate aggro and if you have a terrible party, you can pull aggro if you do this too often. That's not saying "don't ever drop motes", as they can be helpful in case you die and a party member needs some health prior to ressing you, etc.
2. Don't ever heal before the tank has initially pulled aggro from mobs/boss.
3. If you are at the level where you have Boomerang Pulse available to you, position yourself so that you can line with multiple party members and use it so that it's not wasted on a single person. This will be your best friend as it does not animation lock you for the duration that Titanic Favor does.
4. Again, train yourself not to rely too heavily on Titanic Favor. The animation lock determines whether or not you survive, in specific instances. It also generates aggro. Only use Titanic Favor when you know you are safe during animation lock.
5. Use Thrall of Protection to mitigate aggro from yourself.
6. Use "Grounding Corruption Ring" glyph to reduce damage taken by 50% while using that skill. Hopefully your dps will notice and peel mobs/boss off you in that time, or your Thrall of Protection will pull aggro from you quick enough for you to jaunt away.
7. If you're far away from your dps, you can also summon thrall of life for added self-preservation, and then jaunt in the direction of your dps. Once again, force them to pay attention to you. Note that you cannot summon Thrall of Protection and Thrall of Life at the same time.
My Priest Keybinds:
My Mystic Keybinds
I don't know how much my keybinds will help as I use all F1-F12 keys as well 1-+ individually and without a macro-assisted mouse. Alternatively you can rebind keys like Q/E/R/X/etc. for easier reach if you prefer. The skills that are placed past F6 and 6 are skills that I don't spam and are situation-specific. These are skills I know that I can move my left hand away from the WASD keys to reach for a second without being in danger as I don't need them often.
***Note for Energy Stars on Priest (which is a very important skill and must be used off cooldown for 100% uptime), I rebinded my F12 key to X as it is easier to reach. Just so you aren't mistaken about the skill priority.
Biggest tip for healers:
Always remember healing priority:
1. Yourself.
2. Tank
3. DPS
Hopefully this helped!
