Yet another Player Housing thread.

I really love TERA, but it's never going to be my main game without player housing. For Pete's sake, even ESO is getting housing!

Then play ESO. Frankly I'm glad this game DOESN'T have player housing. It keeps players out in the open where others can interact with them. The game world feels empty enough without people disappearing into their little instanced housing boxes.
  • If it would be anything like Garrisons in WoW I would be immediately against it...

Yet another topic posted in wrong section of forum. Anyways, just saying "we need it cuz other game has it" isn't really saying much, and seems "low effort post" for some people here. It's always better idea to elaborate and add details to pique interest.

I mean, players already have something really close to housing; it's called Highwatch, where you have Bank, Broker, NPC merchant, Vanguard Merchant, 3 solo content (teleporters) in like 100m away, etc.

Honestly, what is the purpose of housing though?

I don't think having a chunk of people split between different major cities, instance teleports, split on different channels in the case of HW/instances, "afk" because they ignore 99% of people is interaction. There's also the memory issue many people have where they can't sit in crowded portions of HW.

Housing systems aren't for convenience factors, they typically don't have broker/merchants in them, at most your bank with every other npc being outside of your home. Some of them benefits to the system is partially psychological (and social) benefits. Too long to go on and explain though...

in housing you can private erping B)
  • Hun, the game is entering the last year or so of it's lifespan. Don't expect its developers to make it any better.

Much better to find a secluded beach somewhere.

I'd actually appreciate it if you did. Having never played a game with housing in it, I find it quite hard to imagine the benefits of just having a house. I mean, I can see it as a fun minigame that ends up boring after the first week hype is over.

On the other hand, I could totally see player housing as a revamp on the crafting/gathering system. Though I'm having a hard time making something like that fit in Tera as a game.

This not something that a older game like Tera needs. The Decreasing population is bad enough. Let's not add in more spaces for people to afk and be anti social in.

I agree it definitely shouldn't be like WoW's garrisons... while I liked having my own place, it was way too self sufficient and everyone just sat in their own personal instance and world interaction plummeted.

But... if Bluehole made housing to be a little space for you in the world that pretty much just allowed some fun customization to it, I'd be happy with that. (I'd love a space to display all of my mounts, pets, armor I've collected, that sorta stuff.) Maybe similar to FFXIV's housing but without the annoying property issues, or like SWTOR's strongholds but stripping out the trade broker features/option.

The benefits are purely social based, in other games you find clusters of friends escaping to their little homes to hang out between other activities. Depending on their interest they will hang out in voice and talk, they will write fan fic stories together, they will go over politics, it is like going over a friends house for lunch or dinner. It gives them a sense of a home in game, a place where people from over the world can feel more connected to each other. It has little appeal to those who are here mainly for PvE or PvP. Just like PvE where gear gives people a sense of pleasure, housing does the same for social players. Myself I think TERA could stand to grow a lot more on the social aspect, the less the game offers the smaller it gets.

As for the debate over it makes open world seem like a smaller population, yes it will. Though you could argue that open world now gives people the sense of been lost in numbers, very few are being social, they appear to be just afk in their own worlds.
  • If Tera were to get a housing system, I hope that BHS will make the top housing content only available for ridiculous quantities of gold (e.g. tens of millions for the most expensive houses, millions for some of the most expensive furniture). I understand that game companies need to make money, too, but (1) making all housing content available in the cash shop would be a complete waste of housing's potential as a gold sink and (2) the players who want to buy houses/furniture with real money would sell EMP to purchase them, anyways, so why not remove some gold from circlation in the process?

Oh, sweetie, you'd be surprised how many people said that back in 2013.

As for Player Housing, no thanks! There are many places in Aborea that people have yet to explore. :chuffed:
