To whoever saying there was still lag when dreamstorm got turned off a week ago: dreamstorm main program was NEVER got turned off, it didn't show in game so that noone would be able to take part, but it was running in the background all this time, and EME cannot turn it off completely without doing a maintenance. However after the next maintenance instead of just disable DS completely, they tried to fix it and obviously the fix didn't work, and now we're stuck here without any explanation/update. Or perhaps they just want to leave it there to act as an excuse for their outdated server which obviously cannot handle 30m raid alone.

To be honest things are start to go downhill so quick since most of the passionate core members of Tera's staff left. The rest are just "workers" now.

The fact this got 2 likes is hilarious. Dreamstorm main program isn't running until it's called it's not called until a time is met. Your logic is equivalent to setting an alarm on a clock and saying its always going off it's just in silent mode. Beyond ridiculous. Any event that spawns lots of mobs simultaneously is going to lag it. IIRC one person back in the day used to be able to crash the server by infinitely spawning mobs. I could be wrong but pretty sure that was indeed the case.

Also https://forums.enmasse.com/tera/discussion/9649/dreamstorm-disabled-until-12-06-maintenance yes it was attacked by the council you don't need to have pure motives to know events like this will cause server lag. Nexus caused the entire server to wait till it was done.

I only responded here because people keep bumping it with problems not related to dreamstorm and should be posted in the server stability thread. Also at 9:20 today experienced extreme desync and lag it must be due to dreamstorm that was totes running at that time! People keep pointing to dreamstorm when HH was also released but that can't be an issue cause my phat loots!

Edit: I'm done posting here logic does not rule Tera.
  • I get no lag with dreamstorm. I just wish it still dropped the 500-1200 gold as well as the rubies, so it would be worth farming like before. I haven't seen a full dreamstorm yet, while previously it would be hard to get into any of them.

Tbh I really don't think it is just HH as a person who doesn't do it, because even on a single HH instance it shouldn't lag an entire server. This lag has been happening before Dreamstorm. I would assume that some of Zayo's infrastructure got damaged or overloaded, because it has been a common provider for a very long time and until recently it hasn't caused us any issues.

seriouly, yesterday in peak time on AV all nodes empty, TR all nodes empty, MT all nodes empty.... nobody play it, only thing we get from it is lag, so please consider turning it off. and bring back mongos, or kyra blue boxes :D

Let's not talk about servers, do you even know how your own computer works ? Comparing programs running in the background with an alarm clock, I don't even know what to say anymore.

I have already said this on another topic, but right now Tera's having multiple issues that overlaps each other. 1st is the problem with routing (Zayo) that messes up lots of ppl since around the start of spellbound patch (constant high ping for a long duration), 2nd is the problem with the server since the start of HH and DS (stable ping but huge packet lost once in a while), 3rd is the problem with the DDOS attack to their isp (disconnecting ppl from the server). Regarding problem 1 and 3, EME can't really do much aside from trying to solve it out with their isp, but they do have control over the 2nd problem. No idea why they chose to DO NOTHING and REFUSE TO COMMUNICATE regarding this issue, especially after they've already acknowledged it.

Also the forum quote function is broken.

The only thing I like is the scenery change.
Otherwise, no thank you. I've not seen more than 10 people touch that 'event' in over a week. It's not worth it.
Bring me back some Nexus though... Update the credits for it too.
  • Changes to Dreamstorm are being discussed. EME is still undergoing testing and looking at metadata. Right now, the best thing I can say is avoid high risk activities around US prime-time if the lag effects you to an intolerable degree. What I can say for certain is that in conjunction with the routing issues, disabling Dreamstorm will not fix the whole issue. Stay tuned my friends.

"US prime time" is when a huge portion of this games player base is active. Are we not supposed to play the game when we actually have the time too?

    Again I'll say this.
Try logging into any number of large US based hosted games out right now and tell me if you have this same problem

    ... you won't

I agree with this. Suggesting not to play when that's the best time for players to be on for raids or whatever else really isn't an option.

The player council has brought up the issues with lag during dreamstorm and it is being looked into. We asked for dreamstorm to be shut down to see if that would help but there were still lag issues even when dreamstorm was turned off.

I will say that if you have any detailed information you think will help you can pm me and I'll add it to what I already have. What server you're on, exact time, did your ping spike, did you rubberband, couldnt use skills, open world or a specific dungeon and so on. I'm mostly looking for moments when the majority of the server or dungeon group seems to be lagging.

Of course it is. It was a suggestion of what NOT to do.

A suggestion of how to avoid wasting your time, if you know that the lag caused at that time, will cause your party and raid to fail.

If you and your party know that these issues occur at the time, what makes you think that you should be running RMHM or HH at that time? I personally have brought it up to the council requesting that DS gets shut down. But before any quick action is made, it must be tested.

This is a temporary problem and it will be fixed.

These massive lag spikes/packet loss etc started before SB patch hit. Now at that point only a small % was affected. 1 month later and now masses are having the same issues.

Now we're at 2+ months, no fix, no respite from it ... you cannot say that is a temporary problem.

Unless it's the servers themselves, or the game, EME can't just "fix" it. They don't have ownership over the internet, other corporations do. They would have to become their own provider, or at least partially, like the bigger companies do, but they don't have the resources for that.

Yeah, the issue we had before were related to Internet backend infrastructure. We are still having those issues and now also there seem to be spikes related to content (either HH or Dreamstorm, or both, or something else in this patch). Both of the problems occur most during primetime, so it makes it really hard to isolate which of the problems it is. The general hint is that if you're in a party/raid and it's impacting everyone equally, it's probably the server, but if it's impacting some more than others, it's probably routing-related (and the on-going but older problem).
