For me we have to be in the same area and same channel. For example, both need to be in Cressentia CH.1 to send the invite. I thing after you're in the group you can venture out.

I can confirm this is happening. Last night while questing outside cresentia(not sure if that’s how it’s spelled) me and my group got one shot by a level 65. Once we respawned he was gone. He must of got bored of killing all the newbs I guess.

You might be too high of a level for the matchmaking. Once you hit a certain level you can only enter the dungeon manually.
