^^^ as said crafting use to be big , but not now and can get thru with out it , so basically only good to make the odd thing for sale or your self That said there is also no harm in doing it but can be time and gold consuming

besides elite , go buy emp's thru the shop , and if you want spend them as well as shop uses emp currency and buying merch supports as well
